I am a photographer searching for
lesbians who have dogs (that they adore!) who would be willing to be
photographed for my book that likely will be titled Dogs and their
Dykes.
February 14th I will arrive in Mexico
City at the airport at 6:45pm and leave again for Puerto Vallarta at
9:45pm. If there is someone brave enough to go to the airport (the
corner of the airport at the end of the main building, after domestic
arrivals, in front of the entrance to the metro), with their beloveds
ready to be photographed, I would be honored.
Over the last 10 years, I have
photographed in black and white over 200 women with over 60 purebreds
(and numerous Mutts), and took almost 15,000 images. I traveled to
Costa Rica, Guatemala, Canada and 22 states in the U.S.
My intention is get the most wildly
outrageous group of subjects I can find for the purpose of
demonstating the depth and diversity in our community. This is true
also for the breeds, which I am now looking for a few that I would
love to include: Papillion, English Bull Dog, Mastiff, Irish
Wolfhound, Irish Setter, Giant Schnauzer, Kerry Blue Terrier, Shiba
Inu, Saluki, Ibizan Hound, Bouvier de Flanders, Bedlingham Terrier,
and Vichyla to name a few. Got any of those? Or do you know someone
with one? Or do you have a snake, parrot, frog, iguana, monkey, ferret
or another animal that would like to be in the picture as part of the
dog's family?!?
I will be staying in Puerto Vallarta
from February 14th to 19th and would love to photograph you there, or
close to there. What I would really like is to have a photograph on a
boat since I do not have that from anywhere yet. My inspiration for
Dogs and their Dykes was born out of noticing a poverty of photography
books by and for lesbians and chose to do one that illuminates
lesbians in a positive light. Seeing ourselves simply engaged with our
loved ones honors our humanity, and despite the wide diversity, the
book potentially engenders an intimate sense of belonging. Therein
lies my personal thrill. I assert that many folks adore their pets
like first born children, and that proportionately this phenomenon
proves more prevalent with lesbians.
Frequently, we personify our dogs as
our children, and I aimed to glorify this sacred, unconditionally
loving bond. Hopefully, a handful of my images exemplify the raw,
nonjudgmental nature of this unabashed love, a quality that dogs exude
and humans covet. Here is my contact information:
My Spanish is choppy and comprehension
is worse over the phone, but if you feel confident and have a little
English, you can call me! I live in Colorado on Mountain Standard
Time, perhaps one hour earlier than Mexico City (we just got 6 inches
of fresh snow!) .
I am interested in knowing what kind of
dog(s) you have and the logistics of making a photo shoot work. There
will be time to photograph a couple sets of people at the airport
likely.
