| Welcome to The International Society
for Cultural History and Cultural Studies in Mexico City
The International Society for Cultural
History and Cultural Studies (CHiCS) is an international academic
network initiative based in Mexico City. CHiCS offers an exiting and
groundbreaking interdisciplinary setting for presenting and debating new
research in Cultural History and Cultural Studies.
The International Society for Cultural
History and Cultural Studies is a professional association devoted to
encouraging interdisciplinary studies in the Humanities and Social
Sciences and promoting innovative multidisciplinary and multicultural
exchange and dialogue.
CHICS' academic events are characterized
by traditional paper presentations in panel sessions with three speakers
each, followed by lively exchange, dialogue and interaction between
speakers and audience in many small groups, workshops and seminars
rather than by formal plenary sessions. Our conferences provide a forum
for diverse voices from all over the world, to come together and make
connections across linguistic, cultural and academic barriers.
The society is a nonpolitical, autonomous,
non-profit society financed by membership fees and voluntary
contributions.
The International Society for Cultural
History and Cultural Studies welcomes as members all persons interested
in cultural history and cultural studies. It is open to professional
scholars, students as well as all others interested in exploring these
topics.
Acess to
Information
An important element
in our work is to make information, research and knowledge generally
available in Latin America, which is not published by mainstream media
nor made accessible in Spanish by other sources.
Activists, scientists
and organisations in Latin America often lack the capacity to access
information in English and he International Society for Cultural
History and Cultural Studies contributes through its efforts to make
international research available and accessible to a Spanish speaking
audience, both by organising multilingual academic events, and by
translating and publishing the information as well as presenting it at
community events..
With our conferences,
we want to stimulate academic research on various issues as well as
dialogue and exchange between researchers of different disciplines,
activists, artists and organizations. Research findings presented at the
conferences as well as other conference materials are made available to
a broader audience through publication of the conference proceedings in
English and Spanish versions by international publishers and publication
on the Enkidu web site, which includes a complete news service in
Spanish with a continuously updated extensive news coverage from all
over the world..
We also attempt to encourage and stimulate
contact and dialogue between the general public and specialists in
different fields. Enkidu Academic events are open to the general public
who is being encouraged to attend and participate in the discussions.
Through our events we diffuse information to groups of people who
usually do not have access to this knowledge and enable dialogues
between the general public and specialists. In Latin America where
academic conferences tend to be relatively closed, very formal and quite
excluding activities, this is an almost revolutionary approach.
