- Saturday 31
July / Sábado 31 de julio
Remember: Long Morning Off on
Saturday
Enjoy the city
in the early day before you return for another very interesting and stimulating
afternoon in the conference!
Our
recommendation is to wake up early in the morning and take the subway (ca 25
minutes from the center of the city of Mexico, and a 5 - 10 minutes bus
transfer (or walk) from the station) to beautiful colonial Coyoacan.
Coyacan (Nahuatl: Coyohuacan) is one of
the original native kingdoms
in the valley of Mexico with a long and colorful
history. Immediately after the conquest Hernán Cortés had his residence
here, on the world famous Plaza
Hidalgo, and the palace can still be seen, next
to the early
colonial cathedral and Franciscan convent. Today, Coyoacan is characterized by its well preserved
colonial architecture and a its lively
bohemian and artistic culture. It is also where
you find the
former residences and museums of
Frida Kahlo and Leon Trotsky.
