The Evening Tour on 21st December 2006: “Be Gay Be Proud” and “El Antro Afternoon Party”

© By Pablo Herrera/Enkidu

One of the things I like the most about evening tours is that they can start in the afternoon or even in the morning… isn’t it weird?

It was ten o’clock in the morning when my cell phone rang, it was my dearest friend Lalo who was calling for inviting me to his birthday party in the evening, I couldn’t say no because he’s a well known fashion model professor, so I was sure the club would be crowded with models, since then I knew it was going to be a good day.

I had a lot of time to spend and I was prepared to turn on the TV when I received a SMS form my queer son Ian asking me to go out and have a cup of coffee with him, I decided to go, but first of all, I had to check my e-mail an agenda.

In my e-mail I could see an invitation to a fashion model contest but I decided not to go because my agenda said I had to go to an opening at “El Antro”.

Afternoon Party in the agenda I read, so I took a shower got my jeans and called to the place to confirm I was going.

Rushing trough Mexico City’s traffic I finally arrived to Zona Rosa to meet up with Ian at “Be Gay Be Proud Café”; he was already waiting for me drinking a Kiwi Italian Soda, so I asked for a Black Iced Tea.

It was going to be the firs time I’d go with Ian to a club, because he’s 16 years old, but for today under aged people was the target. We were talking about our expectations on the place an the party, I was telling him how other afternoon parties openings were, and who we’d be meeting there.

Time goes fast when you are having fun, and suddenly it was five in the afternoon so we had to move to “El Antro”.

When we got there, just after passing security guards we found Octavio (afternoon party PR) who was waiting for us to arrive, he gave us a very warm welcome and we got into the place.

Just trough the first access door Jorge (main PR) said hello and led us to our stage table where Victor (manager) introduced the waiter for us.

Just a few seconds after asking for our non-alcohol cocktails three hot and young dancers hoped into the stage.

All guests jumped off their seats for getting closer to the dancers and drinks arrived to our table.

Suddenly and with no advice of that everybody went up in the stage and started dancing, that was something that surprised me a lot because young people is a very difficult audience, but all of them were dancing together the same music in the same place in spite of the differences between wealth status and the reason for being there.

As I said before, time goes fast when you are having fun, Ian had to go home and I had to go with the models so we said bye to everybody and left the place.

About the party with fashion models I cannot say many things because I haven’t got the permission yet but what I can say is that it was hot and finished at seven in the morning!.

Enkidu Magazine really appreciates the facilities provided for the creation of this article by “BE GAY BE PROUD CAFÉ” and “EL ANTRO”. We also wish to use this opportunity to thank all the personnel working in both places for their wonderful service and attention.
