English Proficiency Requirements for
International Students
The working languages of Enkidu Magazine,
AIDSinCULTURE.org and the International Society
for Cultural History and Cultural Studies are English and Spanish. The
Study Center offers courses both in English and Castillian.
Excellent command of the language of instruction in the course that you
sign up for is therefore required. Due to the international character of our activities and the
multilingual and multinational composition of our community of students
and staff, English
tends to be the most used language for internal communication in the
organisation and a good command of English is required of all
students attending the Study Center. International students who are not
native speakers of English must document their proficiency in English.
We recommend international students to
document their profiency in English by taking one of the following
internationally recognised tests:
TOEFL - Test of English
as a Foreign Language
IELTS - International
English Language Testing Service
For admission to the programs at the Aids
in Culture Study Center at the post-graduate or Doctorate levels, a
minimum score of 500 (paper-based) or 170 (computer-based) or 60 (internet-based)
is required on the TOEFL test, or a minimum score of 5.0 from the IELTS (academic)
test. From time to time, our center offers preparatory courses in English
for international students who want to prepare for one of these tests. If

Test information
TOEFL is administered either as a
paper-based or a computer-based test. Computer-based testing is available
year-round in many locations throughout the world. Paper-based testing is
available on a regular basis in locations where computer-based testing is
not available.

It is possible to take the IELTS at nearly
every overseas British Council office. Local offices will supply
information about the availability of the test and the fee charged.
Exemptions
Native English speakers from Australia,
Canada, South Africa, Great Britain, Ireland, New Zealand, and the USA are
exempt from the English proficiency requirement.
International students who have
successfully completed at least one year of academic studies at a college
or university in one of the above countries are also exempt.
Applicants from the European Union, the
Nordic Community or the European Economic Area and/or the Council of
Europe/UNESCO-Cepes may be exempt if they can provide documentary evidence
that they have studied English as their first foreign language for a
period of at least 7 years during primary and upper secondary school
education.
Applicants from African and Asian countries who have
completed at least a Bachelor's Degree and for whom English has been the language
of instruction in upper secondary school and at university, are exempt
from the English proficiency requirement. Applicants from African
countries with GCE Advanced-level examinations in English language are
also exempt.
